Transformed into a stylish hotel with harmonious interiors, antiques and rich fabrics, it is one of the oldest buildings in Zanzibar constructed by the Wazir to Sultan Said Bargash in 1885.
Most stunning of the 8 individually designed rooms is the Arabica Suite with its terracotta décor and low Arabic sofas and the plush Bourbon Suite with two adjoining rooms in cobalt blue and gold. All rooms are air-conditioned and have traditional Zanzibar four-poster beds with lavish mosquito nets, rare lamps, antique furniture and unusual details.
The adjoining Zanzibar Coffee House Café serves a variety of coffees – grown by the hotel’s owners on estates in Zanzibar and in the Southern Highlands – as well as delicious cakes and a range of continental foods. Guests begin each day with the aroma of fresh coffee in the tower top teahouse at breakfast and can relax in the early evening gazing across the minarets as the sun goes down.

In the 125 years that were to come the building was home to one of the many Sultan families and then became a hotel some years ago. Most of the hotel has been restored into its original state. The result is The Swahili House - a sparkling hotel with traditional influences and modern day facilities in combination with authentic Swahili hospitality.
The Swahili House has 5 floors that are all built around a beautiful traditional Zanzibar courtyard. 22 rooms are spread out over 4 floors and divided in 3 different room categories. Lovely rooftop terrace houses bar, restaurant and a very relaxing Jacuzzi overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Hotel Image: Mnarani Beach has 12 standard rooms and most of them face the sea. The standard rooms are simple, but nevertheless private and comfortable. They are decorated in local Zanzibarian style and have an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold water and veranda. All rooms have mosquito nets and fans.
Family Cottages are more spacious than the standard rooms. Each cottage can accommodate up to four people.
The 10 rooms in Zanzibar House offer accommodation, with a little bit extra. All rooms have high-standard en-suite bathrooms; they are fully air conditioned, with telephone, fridges and a tea/coffee station for your convenience. Each room opens onto a wooden balcony with great sea view.
