Nairobi – Lake Naivasha (Crater Lake) Your adventure begins after breakfast on the way to Lake Naivasha, 120 km drive to the bottom of a Great Rift Valley.
You will set up camp at Crater Lake, an 87 hectare private game sanctuary, surrounding a beautiful, green, soda lake. The camp is situated at 6,300 feet on the rim of an extinct volcano.
After lunch, you will spend the afternoon exploring the crater on foot.
In the crater live several troops of colobus monkeys, as well as bush buck, waterbuck, genet cats and marsh mongoose. Outside the crater, the animal population is a changing one, but on most days, you can find giraffe, all the plains game, warthogs, baboons and vervets. Crater Lake is also known for its birds and the opportunity to walk in the African bush in complete safety.

You will cover 85 km, all of which will be on rough surfaces far from other tourist destinations. The road will lead you through acacia forests, around Lake Naivasha, past rose plantations, and then after an easy, gradual climb, down to Lake Nakuru passing the farming areas of the Kikuju people. The last few kilometers before reaching the camp is flat, open savanna with many small villages and mostly Maasai people grazing their cattle.

Day 5:
Lake Nakuru (Mbweha) – Lake Bogoria National Park After breakfast, you will continue towards Lake Bogoria. You will saddle your bicycle for 54 kilometers on a rough road passing sisal plantations and beautiful African wilderness. The wonderful view to Lake Bogoria will invigorate you as you head downhill to the lakeshore where you will camp for two nights.
Lake Bogoria National Park (32 km sq.) is still volcanically active, and the western shore is lined with spouting geysers, rising steam and bubbling geothermal pools. Fresh water springs at the lake edge attract an abundance of birds and wildlife.
The lake is home to Africa’s most magnificent antelope, the greater kudu, and a host of other savannah wildlife: zebra, impala, Grant’s gazelle, klipspringer, buffalo, dikdik and patas monkey among others. Predators include the leopard, cheetah, hyena, mongoose, jackal and occasionally, karakul. About 30 mammal species thrive here. It is also rich in birdlife as the lake serves as a feeding refugee for many species. A total of 373 bird species have been recorded here. In the afternoon, you’ll walk to the top of a nearby escarpment and visit the hot springs.
Picnic lunch en route; dinner and overnight at the camp site.
Day 6: Lake Bogoria National Park – Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria National Park

Around the middle of the trip, the road will start to climb for 15 kilometers, after which you’ll continue on an unpaved road up to Lake Baringo. You will discover the unique surroundings of this interesting lake. If you wish, it will be possible to organize a boat trip on the lake; this will provide a good opportunity to see the great fish eagle hunting. Day 7: Lake Bogoria National Park – Narok Town
Today, you will travel to the southwestern part of Kenya while passing the Mau Narok hills with their beautiful highland farming areas. Before hitting the real bush, you’ll overnight in the biggest town of the Maasai people – Narok. In the afternoon, you can relax and explore the area while the safari team buys all the necessary items needed for the next few days in the bush. Lunch and dinner are at your own cost to give you the option of trying local cuisine.

Day 8: Narok Town – Madji Moto village
After breakfast, you’ll be cycling towards a small village at the foot steps of the Loita Hills-- Madji Moto. You will cover 42 kilometers of partly tarmacked and partly rough road to reach there more or less on flat ground. You’ll camp here for two days.
You will spend your days accompanied by an experienced safari guide and Maasai warriors walking around the hills, observing the animals and learning from local people about life in the wilderness. You can herd cattle and bead jewellery with the Maasai women and fill your evenings with their stories by the fire.
The Maasai are the most well-known tribe in Kenya and Tanzania mostly because their traditional life has remained the same for centuries. They settled in Kenya in the 17th century, migrating from Ethiopia and Sudan. They belong to the Nilotic language group, and their culture is totally based upon their cattle. In Masai Mara, they found plenty of space for their cows to graze while sharing the endless savannah with the wildlife.
They have a reputation for being fearless warriors, and you will see young boys walking with their cattle among zebras and other plains animals, armed with spears, bows and arrows to protect their animals from lions, leopards or hyenas. They wear very colourful clothes, mostly red in colour, which is believed to protect them from lion attacks. They are polygamous, and the women’s jobs are to take care for the children, build houses from mud, and milk the cows. They also make unique, colourful beadwork.
All meals and overnight at the camp.
Day 9: Madji Moto village
Today you will spend with the Maasai people visiting their homes and learning about their culture. Also, you will learn much about local knowledge in herbal medicine, and later, you will visit the local school and climb the Loita Hills with a nice view of African wilderness. In the evening, local villagers will join you at the camp fire and share stories with you.
All meals and overnight at the camp.
Day 10: Madji Moto village – Leleshwa forest
After breakfast, you’ll start your day of cycling. The road will lead you through wide open savannas towards Masai Mara National Reserve. You will cover approximately 56 kilometers mostly on flat ground. Part of the road is tarmac (paved), but the rest is off road on rough surface. Your camp will be set on the edge of a “leleshwa” (sage) forest. The position of the camp is perfect and in complete privacy with a good chance to watch wild game (like wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and elephants) passing by.
Picnic lunch en route; dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 11: Leleshwa forest
In the early hours, you will depart for a cycling safari in the vicinity. You will cover a short distance of approximately 30 km with a good chance of viewing wild game along the way. Also, you will visit some local villages and the biggest school in Maasai land. Return to camp for lunch and a break. In the mid to late afternoon, you’ll be taken on a game drive by vehicle which will continue into a night game drive when you can try to spot nocturnal predators like lions and leopards.
Dinner and overnight at camp.
Day 12: Leleshwa forest – Masai Mara National Reserve On this day, you’ll be cycling towards Kenya’s most well-known reserve--Masai Mara. This is a ride of 75 kilometers. The rough road will lead you through savannas, bush and forest. You will cross rivers and see lots of wild game from the seat of your bicycle.
Masai Mara National Reserve is said to be one of the world’s premier game-viewing destinations. Lions are frequently seen in the Mara and having grown accustomed to cars, you are very likely to see them feeding on a kill during your visit. This is also a good place to see cheetah sitting regally atop a termite mound watching the world. Other animals include zebra, spotted hyena, black backed jackal, hippo, giraffe, eland and wildebeest. The richness of the fauna and flora and the untouched life of Africa, continuing as it has for thousands of years, is secondary to the Mara's annual migration of wildebeest. The spectacle of more than a million of these creatures moving as a great mass across the savannah is one of the most breathtaking sights in nature. The actual migration does not last very long, and its start is impossible to predict accurately. Nevertheless, visitors to Masai Mara in August through September are certain to see great herds of wildebeest and zebra. However, all year round, the Mara is rich in resident wildlife, and the combination of its gentle climate with its scenic splendour and unbelievable wildlife make it Kenya's most popular game reserve.
The Maasai people live on the reserve's fringes and are co-owners of the reserve, sharing in revenues from tourism. Besides the normal safari activities, it is also possible to go hot-air ballooning and do a walking safari in some areas, one of the finest ways to see Africa.
Camp on the shore of a river.
Picnic lunch en route; dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 13: Masai Mara National Reserve Full day spent on a game drive in the reserve.
All meals and overnight at camp.
