Mombasa
– Tsavo East National Park
Arrive
at Moi International Airport in Mombasa in the early morning hours
where you will be met by an Eyes on Africa representative. You then
will start you journey with your safari driver / guide.
Your
4x4 safari vehicle will take you to Tsavo East National Park,
stopping for lunch on the way. There
will be game viewing en route to your lodge in the park where you
will arrive around 14:00. After a short, relaxing break, enjoy an
afternoon safari in the park.
The
combined area of Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks makes Tsavo
one of the world's largest game sanctuaries, covering an area of more
than 20,000 sq. km (7,722 sq. miles). Tsavo
is a combination of dramatic escarpment landscapes combined with the
raw, untamed flavour of one of Africa's great wilderness areas.
As
well as lions and cheetahs, there are many species of antelopes
(oryx, kudu, Grant’s gazelle and giraffe gazelle), as well as
Burchell’s zebras, Maasai giraffe, baboons and vervets. Among
the
birdlife, the most impressive is the Maasai ostrich. Where there is
water, such as at Mzima Springs, crocodiles and hippos can be seen.
Tsavo is especially famous because of the “red
elephants” which
owe their color to the dust prevalent in this area.

Arrive
at your lodge at lunch time. After a pleasant, relaxing break in the
rainforest, you will continue with your afternoon safari in the
reserve.
A
mere 45 minutes from the Indian Ocean lies Shimba Hills National
Reserve, a hilly, tropical rainforest. The 192 square kilometer game
reserve is the last remaining habitat of the sable antelope in East
Africa. These rare animals are well-worth seeing, as are the
elephants, the threatened colobus monkeys, giraffe, buffalo and
leopard if you are lucky. It is also one of the few national reserves
where walking safaris are allowed; this gives you a totally different
perspective of the African wilderness. The views from the green
rolling hills to the Indian Ocean are spectacular!
Dinner
and overnight at Shimba
Rainforest Lodge 4****
You
will stay at spectacular Shimba Rainforest Lodge, a wooden tree house
lodge overlooking a waterhole in the middle of the tropical
rainforest. Here you can quietly observe the elephants which come to

there.

Diani Beach
The
morning will be spent on a walking safari to Sheldrick’s
Falls, 4
km of fairly strenuous walking through forest landscape. You will
enjoy the real sights and sounds of the forest. Your group will be
escorted by a park ranger.
Return
back to the lodge for lunch and departure to Diani Beach. You will be
accommodated in the Pinewood Village
Beach Resort
in a standard room on a half board basis.
Pinewood
Village Beach Resort 3*** to 4****
The
hotel is situated directly on the beautiful, white sandy beach. It is
the last hotel on Diani Beach along a stretch of 20 km of sandy
beaches. Its isolated location is why it’s so special, as
this
hotel enjoys a really peaceful atmosphere, and the beach there is
almost empty with no hotels nearby. This resort is highly recommended
to all nature loving people as well as for families with small
children.
It
is a smaller hotel with a swimming pool, tennis court, restaurant,
beach bar and snack bar. The hotel is host to one of the best centers
in Diani for water sports including surfing, kiting, snorkelling,
diving, and big sea fishing.
You
can choose between a standard room or a suite. All standard rooms
have a veranda, air conditioning, ceiling fan and bathroom with
toilet and shower. Suites are bigger with a living room, minibar,
telephone and kitchen where your personal cook will cook and serve
dinner just for you. Standard room guests will have dinner in the
restaurant.
Day
6. to day 10:
Diani
Beach
This
is your time for rest and relaxation on the white, sandy beaches of
Diani. You can simply read a book under a palm tree, do some water
activities or shop around for African souvenirs around Diani.
On
your request, we can organize some short trips for you which are very
worthwhile.
Recommended
trips:
Shimoni,
a small Swahili town not far
from the Tanzanian border, is
the starting point for a visit to the Kisite Mpunguti Marine National
Park. Your experience begins as the traditional dhow slips gently
away from the jetty. Enjoy a fascinating guided snorkeling experience
in Kisite’s imposing reef system, home to dolphins, turtles
and an
enormous variety of coral life and hundreds of species of beautifully
coloured tropical fish. The journey here in a dhow, followed by a
seafood lunch on Wasini Island, makes it one of those days you will
remember for a lifetime. You
can either choose snorkeling or scuba diving.
Mombasa is Kenya's second largest city and
the oldest - with a history that stretches back some 2,000 years.
Mombasa is a mystical mixture of the ancient and the modern, with a
cosmopolitan population blending Africa, Europe, Arabia and Asia.
Fringing the dhow harbour is Old Town, a maze of narrow streets and
pedestrian lanes lined with quaint shuttered houses and open-fronted
shops. The smell of spices is always present.
The Colobus Trust is a Kenyan conservation
organization established in 1997. The Trust was established to conserve
and protect Diani’s primates, particularly the endangered
black and white Angolan colobus monkey and their environment. It is a
unique opportunity to view wild monkeys in their natural environment in
a small patch of forest just on Diani Beach. During a short walk along
the Trust’s nature trail, you will also be able to track
other Diani primates including sykes, vervets and yellow baboons.
