Detailed itinerary

Day
2: Nairobi – Masai Mara National Reserve Your adventure will begin by heading to Masai Mara National Reserve. You will travel approximately 5 to 6 hours heading west from Nairobi partly on tarmac and partly on dirt roads. The road will lead you across the escarpment to the bottom of the Great Rift Valley through ancient volcanic countryside and African savannas. In the afternoon hours, you’ll arrive and pitch tents on the river bank in the heart of the Mara Reserve followed by the first afternoon game drive.
Picnic lunch en route; dinner and overnight at the camp.
Masai Mara National Reserve is said to be one of the world’s premier game-viewing destinations. Lions are frequently seen in the Mara and having grown accustomed to cars, you are very likely to see them feeding on a kill during your visit. This is also a good place to see cheetah sitting regally atop a termite mound watching the world. Other animals include zebra, spotted hyena, black backed jackal, hippo, giraffe, eland and wildebeest. The richness of the fauna and flora and the untouched life of Africa, continuing as it has for thousands of years, is secondary to the Mara's annual migration of wildebeest. The spectacle of more than a million of these creatures moving as a great mass across the savannah is one of the most breathtaking sights in nature. The actual migration does not last very long, and its start is impossible to predict accurately.
Nevertheless, visitors to Masai Mara in August through September are certain to see great herds of wildebeest and zebra. However, all year round, the Mara is rich in resident wildlife, and the combination of its gentle climate with its scenic splendour and unbelievable wildlife make it Kenya's most popular game reserve. The Maasai people live on the reserve's fringes and are co-owners of the reserve, sharing in revenues from tourism. Besides the normal safari activities, it is also possible to go hot-air ballooning and do a walking safari in some areas, one of the finest ways to see Africa.
Overnight
in the camp*.
Day
3: Masai Mara National Reserve Full day spent on a game drive in the reserve.
All meals and overnight at the camp*.
Day 4: Masai Mara National Reserve– Madji Moto Village
In the morning after breakfast, you’ll be taken to a nearby village called Madji Moto (Hot Waters) situated at the footstep of Loita Hills. There, you will pitch camp in close proximity to this small Maasai community using the local hot springs as your shower.
You will spend the afternoon accompanied by experienced safari guides and Maasai warriors walking around the hills, observing the animals and learning from local people about life in the wilderness. You can herd cattle and bead jewellery with Maasai women and fill the evenings with their stories by the fire.
The Maasai are the most well-known tribe in Kenya and Tanzania mostly because their traditional life has remained the same for centuries. They settled in Kenya in the 17th century, migrating from Ethiopia and Sudan. They belong to the Nilotic language group, and their culture is totally based upon their cattle. In Masai Mara, they found plenty of space for their cows to graze while sharing the endless savannah with the wildlife.
They have a reputation for being fearless warriors, and you will see young boys walking with their cattle among zebras and other plains animals, armed with spears, bows and arrows to protect their animals from lions, leopards or hyenas. They wear very colourful clothes, mostly red in colour, which is believed to protect them from lion attacks. They are polygamous, and the women’s jobs are to take care for the children, build houses from mud, and milk the cows. They also make unique, colourful beadwork.
All meals and overnight at the camp*.
Day 5 - 9: Trekking Safari on Maasai land
This day will start the trekking portion of your expedition. All the necessary equipment will be carried by the experienced Maasai porters; but in case of overload, we will use donkeys also. Your five day trek over Maasai land will be accompanied by real Maasai warriors, known as “morani.” The path will lead you far from other tourists. You will walk across open savannas, tick bush and high hils. You will cross rivers and descend across the Ngurman escarpement to the bottom of the Great Rift Valley until Lake Magadi. On the way, you will meet local people and have many opportunities to learn more about their culture and the relationship they share with the wilderness which surrounds them.
With the exception of buffalo and eland, wild meat is taboo in Maasai culture. Because of that, the Maasai are not hunters actually; in fact their cattle share the pastures with the wild animals. The only enemies for the Maasai people are the lion and the leopard because the calves of their domesticated animals are easy prey for these cats. With respect for all animals, the Maasai kill only the ones which are serious threats to their livestock.
You will camp in complete wilderness, sometimes where nature will give you natural springs to wash in. Security in the camp is taken care of by the “morani” while for your comfort, our safari staff will be traveling with you. The safari cook will prepare delicious food, leaving you wondering how he can manage to do so in only a couple pots on an open fire.
Your last night will be spent in a small local hotel in Ngurman Town near Lake Magadi.
Day 10: Lake Magadi – Nairobi After breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to Nairobi, reaching there around noon.
Your afternoon is free for shopping or relaxing.
Overnight in Heron Hotel.
Ask yor guide to recommend one of Nairobi’s famous restaurants for your goodbye dinner. Day
11: Nairobi – Airport
