Your safari starts in Nairobi, driving to The Laikipia plateau in central Kenya, shadowed by snow-capped Mount Kenya. The “Big 5” are often seen (rhino, elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo) and the district is home to more endangered mammals than anywhere else in East Africa, protecting half of Kenya’s black rhino population.
Your journey continues north to the scenic reserves of Samburu and Shaba. The savannah, dotted with volcanic peaks, offers a sanctuary to a wide variety of animals and to some wildlife species rarely found elsewhere, including grevy's zebra, gerenuk gazelle, beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe and the Somali ostrich.
Continue back south to Ol Pajeta Conservancy. Situated between the foot hills of the Aberdares and the stunning snow-capped Mount Kenya, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts an astounding variety of animals including all the “Big Five” (the endangered black and white rhino , leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion) as well a Jane Goodall’s sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees, which is the only place in Kenya where this highly endangered (and remarkably intelligent!) species can be seen.
This safari ends in Nairobi, but you can easily extend it to the sandy beaches of Indian Ocean.
