Environmental responsibility |
Africa’s landscape and wildlife are two of its most precious elements. Without either, Africa would not be what it is today. With increasing numbers of tourists and the threat this brings to nature, we are acutely aware of how important it is to support and promote the environment in the regions we operate.
How we try to make our operation environmentally responsible:
- The main parks are over crowed and this human impact is damaging these sensitive areas. Therefore we believe in designing itineraries that, where possible, support private conservancies, sanctuaries or community projects and therefore support innovative projects that are conserving new protected areas.
- We support local community based projects. Educating the local community and direct income from tourism to those communities, leads to a better understanding of the importance of preserving their environment and culture.
- Continuously researching and revisiting we carefully select accommodations on our routes. Wherever we can, we use Eco friendly camps and lodges, where management acts responsible to the environment and local communities in all the ways possible.
- We give priority to smaller camps and lodges, providing more personal experience to our clients.
- We provide all our travellers with environmental considerations information before their travel.
- We make a great effort to continuously train our guides. By promoting tailor made and small group safaris, our guides can establish more personal relationship with their clients focusing on environmental, economic and social issues during their travel.

Our Community project: |
Our own “Maji Moto Eco Camp” is situated in a local village of Masai tribesman. The camp is a joint venture between us and a local community.
Our aims include:
- encouraging young tribesman to keep their culture
- educating and helping the local community
- introducing our customers to this genuine Masai tribe so they can experience Masai life at first hand
The Masai have a great respect for the environment and the animals they share it with. We believe that an experience like this has a great impact on every traveler.
- The camp has been designed to be part of the environment and blend in naturally, featuring Masai style dining area, showers and toilets. Only local materials were used (sticks, grass, cow dung, stones). Tents are put down and stored after every departure. No trees were destroyed during the building. Flowers were replanted.
- The camp was built, only by local Masai people. This provided jobs for nearly 50 families at the time of a big drought.
- There is no generator in the camp. It is simple and traditional, with candles, lanterns and camp fires in the evening. Small solar panel provides electricity for charging cameras and mobile phones batteries.
- A gas fridge is used in the kitchen. Combining cooking on gas cookers with traditional cooking on fire, we use only “green charcoal briquettes”.
- Fresh fruits and vegetables are brought from the nearest town local market.
- Camp firewood is collected from our 60 acre forest; picking up dry wood only.
- Water for shower is brought from a natural hot spring with donkeys in the morning and evening hours. On this way no heating is needed as water has 60C from the spring. We also encourage clients to take shower in the spring in the evenings.
- There are no game drives from the camp (exept short optional night game drive), to reduce the impact of traveling with vehicles thru out the African journey. Exploring the nature on foot with Masai guides, villages and school visits are daily activities here. The camp is also a base for our cycling trips.
- All travelers are advised to bring some school materials with them, even if it is just few pencils. Many visitors decide later to send some more needed materials from home or even to sponsor one on the children. With our travelers help we improved few different local schools in Maji Moto village.
- When visiting local villages we advice to our travelers to say “Thank you” with buying some of their art crafts which are original and hand made.
- Masai people kept their culture more or less impact for many centuries. Young generations started schooling and more and more of them don’t get the chance to learn all about their culture. They are sent off to boarding schools when they are little. By providing jobs in the camp and training new guides, we encourage the Masai to keep their culture and to pass on their knowledge to the new generation. All the people working in the camp are from a local Masai community.

Economic responsibility |
| All our guides are local Kenyans with great knowledge about the country, its flora and fauna. Wherever possible we encourage our customers to take on board a local area guide, if available. Our guides will also advise and help our customers purchase souvenirs from local shops and communities in areas visited. On most our routes, we try to include visits to community projects, schools and local villages where travelers can contribute to the community by purchasing local arts and crafts or donating some basic school materials which are more than appreciated in most of African schools. All our customers receive full pre-trip information pack about recommended tipping. |
| |
Social responsibility |
| All our customers receive full pre-trip information about culture and traditions in the destinations to be visited. Once on the trip, our guides will advise and discuss the local traditions, with their clients, often with the help of local tribal guides. We believe that culture plays an important role in this world and we are committed to help preserving old traditions. We are also committed to take our customers closer to nature and culture without harming any of them and to provide deep and authentic experience to all our travelers. |
